This case study highlights the growing reading culture at GES 5BC, a PLP partner school in a rural area. At first, the school faced challenges, especially in involving women in school activities. Nearby, GGPS 5/BC also struggled with students had weak Urdu reading skills, and most families couldn’t afford books.

Miss Tayyiba, the headteacher of GGPS 5/BC and a CRG member, visited the GES 5BC library and was inspired by the reading activities. She wanted to bring the same idea to her school. She created a weekly plan where storybooks are issued to half of the students in each class. A register is maintained to track the books. This simple step brought a big change. Students began reading with more interest and even showed improvement in their regular studies. According to Miss Tayyiba, Mothers are happy and students now ask for storybooks daily, which is a very positive sign.

She is now planning to set up a reading corner in her school with support from CRG members and parents. Some members will donate books, and she also plans to buy Room to Read storybooks for the library.
