She Creates Change

Brief Overview

She Creates Change is an award winning, first nonprofit-led animated live action film project that promotes gender equality through the inspiring stories of adolescent girls around the world. The film uses a blend of animation and live-action documentary to tell the stories of six courageous young women from underserved communities in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, and Vietnam. Each story follows a young woman as she navigates distinct adversities, including harassment and food scarcity, using vital life skills to advocate for herself. The films address wide-ranging themes such as discrimination, financial literacy, climate justice, and sexual harassment.

PLP
Translation of Videos in 5 Regional Languages

To ensure the “She Creates Change” films resonate deeply with the adolescents and local communities, Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi has translated them into five key regional languages: Urdu, Sindhi, Punjabi, Saraiki, and Pashto. This crucial localization makes the powerful stories directly relevant and accessible to adolescent girls across communities.

Six Videos' Summaries

Faced with profound barriers, six girls across three continents made a different choice: they chose to challenge the prevalent conventional practices. “She Creates Change” is a series of six animated documentary shorts celebrating Dewmini, Keya, Trang, Diksha, Yashika, and Naifat. Supported by Room to Read, they harnessed skills in decision-making, collaboration, and resilience to become powerful advocates for their own education and beyond. Their profiles, detailed below, are a testament to the change one voice can ignite.

SheCreatesChange-Dewmini
Dewmini (Sri Lanka)

When Dewmini’s family planned to send her away for work, she defied expectations and turned a passion for gardening into climate advocacy, transforming her family’s future and finding her own powerful voice in the process.

Diksha (Nepal)

Discriminated against for her dark skin, Diksha transformed prejudice into purpose, emerging as a powerful voice for self-love and a leader for marginalized girls.

Keya (Bangladesh)

Faced with relentless bullying and institutional inaction, Keya refused to be silenced. Her advocacy compelled her community to intervene, ending the harassment and ensuring her path to education.

Trang (Vietnam)

Defying financial and technological barriers, Trang launched a YouTube comedy show, rising to become the first teen influencer from the Mekong Delta and a national icon.

Naifat (Tanzania)

Shaken by her parents’ divorce, Nafia rebuilt her confidence through music, finding strength and a new identity in her powerful voice.

Yashika (India)

Driven by harassment, Yashika mastered karate, won national gold, and now teaches other girls to defend themselves.

Capacity Building on Dissemination of She Creates Change Films

Through the “She Creates Change” program, ITA trained a network of 18 Master Trainers who empowered 152 schools’ teachers from schools across Pakistan with sharp facilitation skills. These educators were trained to guide adolescents and communities in challenging stereotypes, overcoming social stigmas, and pursuing their dreams for transformative education.
