Agenda of the activity

orientation of “Book Selection Committee” was conducted to develop their sound understanding on the standard procedure for book selection and adaptation.

Preamble

Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi is implementing a Room to Read’s funded project entitled as “Pakistan Literacy Project In two districts of Punjab, Pakistan (Lahore and Bahawalpur). Core of the project is to put interventions to develop book reading habit in primary school children through establishment of child friendly model school libraries in targeted schools. These libraries will be equipped with 25 international adapted titles and 600 titles of ideal book collection. In this particular regard, a detail one day orientation of “Book Selection Committee” was conducted to develop their sound understanding on the standard procedure for book selection and adaptation. This document covers briefly proceeding of this subjected activity.

Proceeding

CEO of ITA, Technical lead of books adaptation component, and 2 members (Ms. Huma Mirza, Sarwat Mohiuddin) were attending the session via zoom link.

Session started with the recitation and introduction of the participants.  David Strawbridge (Moderator) formally welcomed the book selection committee members and shared TORs of the book selection committee and objectives of the book adaptation and selection exercise.

Ms. Baela Raza Jameel, CEO of Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi expressed her hopes and aspiration that at the end of the orientation, all members of book selection committee develop sound clarity on the book adaptation and selection criteria.

Orientation session then formally initiated as per activity agenda via using multimedia presentation. Key components of the presentation included the following;

·         Definition and characteristics of good books for children.

·         Type and genres of books.

·         How to sort books on the basis of genres / level. Was

At the end of the presentation, participants were provided with a book evaluation template to evaluate 5 book titles as demo exercise. Tentative work plan of books adaptation and selection exercise was also developed at the end of the session which is given below. The same work plan is circulated with all members of the committee through official letter from CLC.
