Latest from PLP - 3-Day Training of Trainers (TOT) to Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) sector teams on Initiating Reading Hour with Interactive Libraries and Learning Activities
A Training of Trainers (TOT) for Reading Hour under the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) took place from November 6th to 8th. This initiative aimed to train a total of 38 participants, including coordinators, co-coordinators, and language experts from the FDE. During the TOT, the participants gained skills to promote reading habits, design library routines according to grade levels, and create interactive learning activities perfectly aligning with the FDE’s mission to promote reading habits among students.
The training covered key aspects, including explaining reading habits, describing activities to develop these habits, introducing the Reading Hour initiative and interactive libraries, teaching library routines based on grade levels, and developing learning activities supporting reading and managing libraries. The importance of child-friendly libraries and the roles of teachers and librarians in creating such environments were also discussed. An action plan for post-workshop implementation was outlined.
These Trainers were further instructed by the Deputy Director FDE to conduct two-day training sessions for schools in clusters of 25, focusing on reading skills and the ‘Reading Habit’. Once the teachers from all the schools will be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills, each school will introduce the ‘Reading Habit’ once a week to enhance the reading skills.
This initiative seeks to instill a love for reading among students in FDE schools, adapting to the diverse conditions of schools with and without libraries. The training program equips educators with practical strategies to cultivate a reading culture, contributing to the overall educational development of students.
PLP has established child-friendly Library rooms in 24 primary schools (12 in Bahawalpur and 12 in Lahore) and the establishment of classroom library corners in 10 more schools (05 in Bahawalpur and 05 in Lahore).
