Libraries enabling parents to see the magic

School Name: GGES Abul Khair

During one of the CRG meetings at GGES Abul Khair, parents shared how developing an interest in reading is helping their kids to solve daily life problems. Khadija reads in class 4th in Abul Khair school; her mother shared that Khadija loves to read books and she reads them with keen interest. In her words, “Khadija often refers to story book characters in her daily life and talks about them with her friends and family”. She further shared that during a family visit, her cousins started fighting during a cricket match. She was the one who stood up and stopped them from fighting by sharing the story of “Annu Kahla” book which she read in the library. The whole family is proud of Khadija.

 Her mother shared, “I did not expect the storybooks to have so much impact on our Childrens’ lives”. Now Khadija’s mother regularly participates in the CRG meetings and check out books for her kids, inspiring others to do the same for the children.

During the CRG meeting at CDG Rajgarh school, parents shared the impact of libraries in their children lives. One of the parents shared that as their children bring books home to read, they give time to read story books otherwise they spend their time on mobiles. The practice of checking out books has not only increased the interest of students reading books, it has also reduced their time on mobile phones. Similarly, another parent share that its due to the library her daughter is regular at school, she gets very excited on her library period and she spares her free time in the library reading books and she has also started writing her own stories.

Establishment of Libraries

PLP has established child-friendly Library rooms in 24 primary schools (12 in Bahawalpur and 12 in Lahore) and the establishment of classroom library corners in 10 more schools (05 in Bahawalpur and 05 in Lahore).
