Latest from PLP - Exploring New Horizons of Learning: Room to Read's Vice President Visits PLP Library

On May 3rd, 2023, a momentous event unfolded at Govt. Elementary School Muslim Colony, Rajgarh, as Room to Read’s Vice President of Program Operations, Mr. Michael Bowers, along with CEO Ms. Baela Raza Jamil and Senior Program Manager Ms. Saba, paid a special visit to the Pakistan Literacy Project’s library. Guided by District Manager Ms. Farah Shah, the team received insights into the library’s functioning and its impact on students.

The visit commenced with Sir Zulqarnain conducting a captivating read-aloud session for Class Five, sparking interactive activities that kept the students thoroughly engaged. The students, eager to immerse themselves in the world of literature, were then given the opportunity to select their favorite books for checkout.

Moving on to the next class, Ms. Rabia orchestrated a paired reading session, encouraging students to discuss and review the books they read. Ali Hamza, a remarkable fifth-grade student, even took the lead by conducting a heartfelt read-aloud of his favorite story, showcasing the library’s nurturing environment for young leaders.

Beyond the literary activities, a warm and friendly interaction unfolded between Mr. Bowers and the students, centered around topics ranging from favorite foods to beloved characters. These conversations not only bridged gaps but also added a personal touch to the visit, creating a positive and enthusiastic atmosphere.

Post-library activities, the team reconvened in the principal’s office for a reflective discussion on the library’s impact. Ms. Iram Shahzadi, the school principal, shared valuable insights into how the library has significantly contributed to enhancing students’ reading skills and subsequently increased enrollment.
